Make Hunger Go Extinct!
2019 Food Drive
The Holy Redeemer 8th graders have created a campaign and are asking you and the entire community to participate. The winners: needy families in our own community! Here are the rules. From November 18th through the 22nd, students are asked to bring in boxed and canned food items. Each grade level is a team. Boxes will be placed in the gym each morning and the students are to place their items in the boxes designated for their grade levels. The class will receive points for every canned item in the box. Most canned items will count as five points for the class; however, each day there will be one or two "hot" items. The hot items for the day will each earn the class ten points for the designated day only. Students may also place boxed items in the collections for other grades. These boxed items will have a negative effect on that class's score. All boxed items subtract five points from another class's score.
Hot items are the following:
Monday - Peanut butter, jelly, diapers
Tuesday - paper towels, toilet paper, facial tissue (kleenex)
Wednesday - sugar, flour, paper products
Thursday - toothpaste, detergent, dish soap
Friday - ketchup and mustard, bar soap
There will be two winners at the end of the week, one from grades K through 4 and one from grades 5 through 8. The winning class from K-4 will choose one prize from these options: a free dress day, a movie day, or an extra recess. The winning class from 5-8 will choose one prize from these options: a free dress day, a movie day, or an extra recess.
Finally, there are details about scoring which must be observed. Food that has passed the expiration date does not earn a score as we are forced to dispose of it. Items that are packed with multiple small packages (such as raisins, ramen noodles, etc.) may not be broken open and placed in several boxes. Items marked "not for individual sale" will not count in the competition.
It is important to remember to help and pray for others in times of need by spreading hope in any way possible. Holy Redeemer is ready to accept this challenge, and we hope that you will help others in their time of need.
Remember, we can be light that others can follow.
Thank you!
